Two Wood Awards nominees supplied by Timbmet get Highly Commended

Timbmet supplied the European Oak to Icklesham Joinery Ltd for the Christ Church Crypt project in Spitalfields, London.

The project redeveloped the crypt at Christ Church Spitalfields, a Grade I listed building by Nicholas Hawksmoor. The use of European Oak in the crypt space was inspired by Hawksmoor’s use of materials in the church above but with contemporary detailing. The new lightweight, reversible timber structures have been designed to be discrete. The design and placement of the unvarnished oak walls makes a clear distinction between the old and new and creates open views along the length and width of the space.

Timbmet also supplied European Oak and Spruce to Benfield & Loxley for the Springfield, St Clare’s project in Oxford.
New pavilions were required to fit in with the Grade II listed building at St. Clare’s College. The residential pavilions are constructed of oak-clad CLT, comprising 100mm thick wall and floor plates. The choice of oak as a cladding material, both inside and out, was driven by the original building. The naturally ventilated art studio has an exposed glulam portal frame in oak.
