There can be few people more informed of the issues facing the timber industry today
than Simon Fineman, Chief Executive of Timbmet since 2000. With responsibility for
one of the largest timber importing and distributing operations in Europe, he is
recognised as a leading industry figure.
Simon’s insight covers more than the commercial aspects of timber production, he
is also a committed environmentalist who has worked with many organisations including:
GLOBE International - an environmental group which campaigns on forest conservation
and climate change, including lobbying governments about illegal logging.
The Zoological Society for London – to help develop the Wildlife Wood Project, which
supports the long-term conservation of endangered species.
Green Light Trust - a UK charity that works with communities to develop and rejuvenate
their local landscape through tree planting schemes.
Common Purpose – a not for profit organisation committed to developing leadership
skills across public and private sector organisations.
Simon is also chairman of the TRADA, the Timber Research and Development Association,
which is dedicated to maximising the benefits of wood and developing its suitability
for new applications.
His experience in these occasionally conflicting areas gives him a unique point
